– Sci-Fi / Paranormal – M. Duffer/ R. Duffer/ S. Levy – Netflix – Strange Things – Season I
This thrilling Netflix-original drama stars award-winning actress Winona Ryder as Joyce Byers, who lives in a small Indiana town in 1983 — inspired by a time when tales of science fiction captivated audiences. When Joyce’s 12-year-old son, Will, goes missing, she launches a terrifying investigation into his disappearance with local authorities. As they search for answers, they unravel a series of extraordinary mysteries involving secret government experiments, unnerving supernatural forces, and a very unusual little girl.
Im going on holidays today but before flying and want to share with you one of my newest fav tv shows. This is probably one of the tv shows that nearly everyone is talking about recently. Netflix brought in July this amazing sci-fi / paranormal / horror universe. The story follows the life of a group of people in a small town that saw their lives changed when Will disappeared and a lot of mysterious things started to happen. We will follow a group of friends that try to find Will, a mother that will look for her son desperately even when everyone thinks she is mad, a chief trying to find the truth and living with his own ghosts and a secret government experiments that involve supernatural forces in the form of Eleven and some monsters that came from a parallel universe.
This tv show is simply awesome. You will find a mysterious atmosphere, creepy monsters, people disappearing, a girl with superpowers…but also the power of friendship and family. In my opinion, Winona makes a great role as Joyce. You can feel how desperate she is, how much pain she has and also all her faith.
If you haven’t seen it yet, better to start to and stop reading this or you may find some spoilers…
We can see this small town through the eyes of three groups:
The adult world comes full of ghost. Joyce has to deal with a job that takes most of her time, a husband that has left…but when Will disappears all her «calm world» breaks and she has to deal with a lot more.
Jim has to deal with the loss of her daughter and the break of his family and he drinks quite a lot…
the Wheelers…is kind of the typical couple that are together because was a good deal and you can see there isn’t a connection between them when the government comes looking for Eleven.
Nancy, Barbara, Steve and Jonathan are quite differents. Nancy is the good girl that is dating the cool and popular boy in the school, Steve. She is trying to bring together her good student, good girl and friendship with Barbara life with her new boyfriend. When Barbara disappears she finds herself closer with Jonathan and there is a moment of «love triangle» there.
Steve is this popular, asshole boy who thinks is the king in the world and who demonstrates by the end of the season that he is kind of an asshole but not a terrible one and tries to fix his mistakes.
Jonathan has a lot on his plate. A broken family, a brother who disappear…he is considered a weird boy and hasn’t many friends. He tends to dislike people but he has feelings for Nancy. He is brave and I kind of sweet.
Barbara…oh Barbara. I think the show was kind of unfair with her. She also disappears and seems that no one cares about it. I understand the point of the producers. We have a group of main characters and focus on two families dealing with a son/daughter that disappears is not easy and probably won’t make the tv show as good as it is…but…when El sais she is gone no one seems to care, when Joyce and Jim are looking for Will in the parallel universe they don’t even bother to search for her…I feel sorry for her.
Mike, Dustin, Lucas and Will are a strong group of friends that love science, role gaming, are quite unpopular at school and very happy together.
When Will disappear they meet Eleven and they will do everything they can to bring Will back. And as they all said, El is pretty cool. They are so funny and have a few sweet moments, especially Mike and Eleven.
Overall, I’ve enjoyed a lot watching this tv show and I can’t wait till the next season. Especially after that scene of Will in the bathroom and Jim in the snow. This has a kind of X-files vibe and I would recommend you to watch it if you have a Netflix subscription.
